Abstract

The research aimed to determine growth of the forage tree legume Indigofera zollingeriana on different drought stress treatments. The study was done based on completely randomized design (CRD), with 12 plants as replications. The treatment consisted of three levels of drought stress, ie control (100% field capacity=fc), moderate drought stress (50% fc), and severe drought stress (25% fc). The variables observed were plant height, stem diameter, number of branches, biomass production, shoot dry weight, root dry weight, shoot/root ratio, and root length. The data were analyzed by covariance analyzed (ANOVA) and the differences between the treatments were tested by LSD. The results showed that moderat drought stress (50% fc) and severe drought stress (25% fc) significantly (P < 0.01) decreased length and height of plant, stem diameter, number of branches, biomass production, shoot dry weight, root dry weight, but not shoot or root ratio. MATERI DAN METODE

Penelitian dilakukan di rumah kaca Agrostologi, Balai Penelitian Ternak, Ciawi mulai bulan April sampai dengan Nopember 2012. Persemaian, pemindahan tanaman dari persemaian ke pot plastik, penentuan kapasitas lapang (KL) dan kadar air tanah (KA). Penanaman I. zollingeriana diawali dengan proses perendaman biji dalam air bersuhu 70oC selama 2 jam. Biji yang sudah berkecambah dipindahkan ke nampan persemaian (seeding tray) yang berisi tanah dan kompos, perbandingan 1 : 1 sampai umur 4 minggu. Tanaman yang telah berumur 4 minggu dipindahkan ke polybag kecil masing-masing diisi satu tanam I. zollingeriana hingga umur 8 minggu. Selanjutnya tanaman dipindahkan ke pot plastik berdiameter 50 cm dan tinggi 50 cm, yang telah diisi media tanam berupa 2/3 bagian tanah latosol coklat dan 1/3 bagian kompos. Masing-masing pot diisi satu tanaman I. zollingeriana yang dipelihara sampai umur 2 bulan masa periode adaptasi. Pengambilan data mikroklimat dilakukan melalui pengukuran suhu dan kelembaban rumah kaca setiap hari dengan menggunakan thermohygrometer
