Abstract
The impact that large-scale prepayment programs will have on the dental care delivery system is examined with reference to the dental benefits program won by the United Auto Workers that goes into effect this month. This month about 3 million United Auto Workers and their families begin to take advantage of dental benefits under contracts negotiated last year with the Big Three of the automotive industry. The advent of large-scale prepayment programs will have an impact on the dental care delivery system. Peer review, norms of quality, standards for prepayment programs, and education of subscribers about their benefits are means by which the profession can strengthen dental prepayment programs while bringing them into close accord with the policies of the Association.
