Abstract

With the help of an analysis of Fabry-Perot modes in plates of CdS crystals, the group velocity of light, νg, and its dependence on frequency in the neighbourhood of exciton resonances is found. These modes are distinctly observed in reflection and luminescence spectra at different temperatures in a wide spectral interval. An excellent agreement with the theoretical values of νg, calculated for the normal waves in the crystal (polaritons), is obtained. Some properties of Fabry-Perot resonators, depending on νg, are discussed. The effect of exciton concentration on the dispersion properties is observed and explained by considering the exchange interaction between excitons.
