Except the same things that can be had anywhere: hope for the strength of reason and the fight for social justice and democracy, which some people may still choose to call socialism not me. Utopia lives in our heads. When it is coupled with power, it becomes a dictatorship. Utopia is the measure of reality, but it cannot be reality itself. I look forward to a time when the battle of the utopias will not mean that the one Germany will have to stand in for the other, in which all the craving for action of West German utopian thinkers is not directed to the barren landscape of the GD R because they feel their own culture to have developed imperfectly. I look forward to a time when I will once again feel myself one with the people I consider to be my allies.
