Abstract

SUMMARY In this article the author argues that there is an emerging South African lingo which is not only facilitating verbal communication amongst all South Africans, but which is also doing much for emphasizing a much needed all-embracing South African identity. Ironically this new lingo tends to be denigrated, rejected ant treated as if it didn't exist by many South Africans, even though it is in common use and is an important medium of intercultural communication in informal situations.
