Abstract

The content of a new historical atlas of the Bolshevik Revolution, published by the Main Administration of Geodesy and Cartography (GUGK SSSR), is described and evaluated. The four major sections of the atlas consist of thematic maps and explanatory text devoted to the socioeconomic conditions prior to the revolution, events associated with the Menshevik assumption of power (the Provisional Government), the Bolshevik Revolution proper, and the Civil War and Allied military intervention. Also described are considerations involved in the development of systems of symbol and color design. Translated by Jay K. Mitchell, PlanEcon Inc., Washington, DC 20005 from: Geodeziya i kartografiya, 1988, No. 3, pp. 49-52.
