Abstract
In the decade following World War I the business sector of the United States economy enjoyed unprecedented success, which in turn contributed to increased prosperity for many Americans. The tremendous activity of American business in the 1920’s can be seen in its productions relative to population increase: from 1921 to 1929 the population of the United States grew 11 per cent, while in the same period American businesses expanded the production of durable and non-durable manufactured goods by 87 per cent. The prosperity of the U.S. economy can be seen in the total and per capita growth in the Gross National Product (GNP): from 1921 to 1929 the annual total GNP increased from $ 74 billion to $ 104.4 billion and the per capita GNP rose from $ 682 to $ 857.
