Abstract

Synopsis The graptolite fauna from the Superstes Mudstone includes at least 12 taxa that indicate a low level in the Nemagraptus gracilis graptolite zone. The graptolite fauna is correlated with those from the Craigmalloch and Currarie formations in SW Scotland and the Athens Shale of Alabama, USA, but is older than any graptolite fauna known from the Glenkiln Shale Formation of the Southern Uplands Terrane. Several species are discussed briefly and Scottish specimens of Dicellograptus alabamensis Ruedemann are described.
