Abstract
Ashkin graphical analysis is adapted to the case of pion-pion scattering. The analysis provides simple criteria of the consistency of the data. For illustrative purposes it is then applied to some older data on pion-pion scattering which are sometimes believed to give evidence for a narrow σ-resonance. The analysis shows that the data are inconsistent if interpreted on the basis of simplest assumptions. If it is permitted that the S- and P-wave production ratio differs from the prediction of the one-pion-exchange model, the analysis leads to the broad σ-resonance in the T= j=0 partial wave.
