Abstract

This report presents the application of the variation of the capacitance of a GaAs surface barrier diode for light detection using FM and for control of parametric oscillation using a pulsed light beam. As the light source a GaAs electroluminescent diode whose wavelength was about 8400 Å at 77°K was used. In the FM experiment, the GaAs surface barrier diode was used in place of a reactance diode in an oscillator. In the experiment on the control of parametric oscillation a degenerate type of parametric oscillator was used. The centre frequency of the tank circuit was about 3·3 Mc/s and varied with the illumination on the surface barrier diode. Control was obtained by the pulsed light beam from a GaAs electroluminescent diode.
