Abstract

In 2001, 17-year-old KL was pregnant with an anencephalic fetus, which posed a risk to her physical and mental health, and she was denied therapeutic abortion care at a national hospital. Her case was subsequently reported to the Human Rights Committee, which in 2005 ruled that KL had been subjected to cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment, had been denied the right to privacy, and special consideration as a minor; and that the Peruvian State "has the obligation to adopt measures to prevent similar violations in the future."
