The Gingrich Senators as Partisan Warriors beyond Roll-Call Votes

Abstract

The Gingrich Senators are less likely to cosponsor Democratic bills, more likely to support filibusters, and more likely to engage in questionable bargaining tactics with Democratic senators. Furthermore, the Gingrich Senators have developed a new way to bring the Senate chambers to its knees—killing legislation through amendments. Gingrich Senators introduce more amendments, and these amendments obtain less support, than the amendments offered by other Republican senators.
