M^ / -ANY writers on agriculture have discussed aspects of the size of farms. A topic of major interest has been the influence of farm size on the efficiency of agricultural production, and the respective merits of large and small farms have been debated by many authors.1 Of equal interest have been the changes which have taken place in the size of farms over a long period of time.
