Abstract

Some North American aphylloid species of Scirpus are discussed in detail with particular emphasis on Asiatic–American relationships. Beetle, in 1947, recognized 27 species in this group; 15 of his species examined in the present treatment are reduced to 8. The following new combinations are proposed: S. juncoides var. Williamsii, S. Smithii var. leiocarpus, S. supinus var. saximontanus, S. lacustris ssp. validus, S. lacustris ssp. validus var. luxurians, S. subterminalis var. cylindricus, S. subterminalis ssp. nipponicus, and S. maritimus f. cymosus.
