Abstract

AbstractThe Australian leafhopper species of the genus Scaphoideus Uhler (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae: Deltocephalinae) are revised. Scaphoideus pristidens Kirkaldy is removed from synonymy with Scaphoideus festivus Matsumura, which does not occur in Australia. Two new species, Scaphoideus foshoi from New South Wales, Queensland and the Northern Territory and Scaphoideus obscurus from Queensland and the Northern Territory are described and illustrated, as is Scaphoideus pristidens, and a key is provided for the separation of all three species. The retention of the Scaphoideini as a separate tribe within the Deltocephalinae is discussed.
