Abstract

Examination of the types of E. abstersa (Loew, 1862) and E. acutangula (Thomson, 1868) shows these to be distinct species. Specimens of abstersa have been seen only from the Atlantic States, from New York to Florida, while acutangula is known to range from the Pacific States eastward at least to Minnesota and Indiana. E.arnaudi from California and E.dreisbachi from Mexico are included in a key to the four species now known in the genus.
