Abstract

Three species are recognized in the Andean genus Aschersoniodoxa. Aschersoniodoxa pilosa, a new species from Peru, is described and illustrated, and A. cachensis, a new combination, is proposed. A key to the species is given, and scanning electron micrographs of seed, pollen, and leaf surfaces are presented. Following the treatment presented here, Aschersoniodoxa Gilg & Muschler consists of three Andean species that grow at elevations from 3800 to 5100 m. The most widespread of the three is A. cachensis (Speg.) Al-Shehbaz (comb. nov.), a species distributed in central Peru, western Bolivia, and northwestern Argentina. Aschersoniodoxa mandoniana (Wedd.) Gilg & Muschler is narrowly endemic to Depto. La Paz, western Bolivia, whereas A. pilosa Al-Shehbaz
