Abstract

Paul Adrien Maurice Dirac was one of the greatest physicists of the twentieth century. Certainly when one thinks of the greatest British physicists the names that come to mind are Isaac Newton, James Clerk Maxwell and Paul Dirac. For almost a decade, from 1925–35, Dirac's work constituted some of the most fundamental contributions to what has been called “The Golden Age of Theoretical Physics” and so long as quantum theory remains a part of the foundations of the physical description of Nature, Dirac will be remembered as one of its prominent architects.
