Abstract

The analysis of Waters and Keeley [1] for the start-up of the drainage of an elastico-viscous liquid from a vertical surface is extended to include the effect of the vertical surface moving vertically with an arbitrary velocity. This is used to examine the effect of elasticity on the interesting drainage problems associated with the sudden withdrawal of a vertical plate from an elastico-viscous liquid.
