Abstract

Recent calculations of the deviations from Matthiessen's Rule (DMR) using the scattering time formalism are shown to be equivalent to the generalized two band model of MacDonald (1956). This provides a unified physical model which explains in a qualitative way the similarities in the DMR observed in a wide variety of metals with widely varying band structures. Some simple calculations for dilute alloys of silver are presented and shown to have some of the essential features of the experimental results for the DMR.
