Abstract
Mental health professionals working with sex addiction and sexually compulsive behavior should keep several factors in mind when treating gay male clients. This article examines the perspective of the gay male client entering treatment for sex addiction. Issues related to therapists, such as therapists' gender and self-disclosure of their sexual orientation, also are presented. Finally, dynamics in therapeutic groups are discussed along with the overall treatment environment. The authors hope to sensitize sex-addiction treatment providers to the unique needs of the gay men who enter their treatment programs.
