Abstract

The internet's history goes back to the 1950s and 1960s with the invention of computers. Its brief existence has spawned several businesses, one of which is online travel agencies (OTAs). It has transformed travelers' requirements into “one-stop shops” for all our travel needs. The online travel business did not begin on a particular day. However, we can conclude that consumer attitudes and behaviors regarding travel reservations have shifted during the last five years. The conventional “brick and mortar” travel agency was phased out in favor of internet trip booking. Instead of relying on travel agencies to arrange their travels, travelers want to book and see their itinerary themselves. The passengers want direct access to the rates. A travel portal is a highly integrated booking engine that connects providers in the travel and hospitality industries with customers on a single screen.
