Abstract

The United States is facing challenges modernising and expanding its submarine fleet, including budget constraints, industrial-capacity limitations and the complexities of fulfilling agreements made as part of its AUKUS defence-technology partnership with Australia and the United Kingdom. Notably, over the next decade, the US Navy will be managing a trough in its force of nuclear-powered guided-missile submarines.
