Abstract

Human rights will remain central to the future world order and to the well-being of countries across the globe. For a little more than a decade the UN Commissioner for Human Rights has been charged with leading the promotion and protection of human rights world-wide. The author, who was recently Acting High Commissioner after the assassination of the third holder of the office, assesses the progress made in that first 10 years and sets an agenda for future developments.
