Abstract

This is a piece that contemplates on the future of public service broadcasting (PSB) by integrating and analyzing the insights gained from two books: ‘A Future of Public Service Television’, edited by Des Freedman and Vana Goblot and ‘Public Service Media in the Networked Society’, edited by Gregory Ferrell Lowe, Hilde Van den Bulck and Karen Donders. It appears that the transformations in the digital environment may be both undermining the positioning of PSB and increasing the demand for trusted media institutions.
