Hodgson, MA, DSc, PhD, ARCS, DIC, FInstP Corpus Christi College, Oxford, OX1 4JF, UK Dr Peter Hodgson is head of the Nuclear Physics Theoretical Group of the Nuclear Physics Laboratory, University of Oxford, and Senior Research Fellow of Corpus Christi College, Oxford. He has been engaged on research in nuclear physics and university teaching for over thirty years, and has always been interested in the social effects of science, especially of nuclear physics. He was a member of the Council of the Atomic Scientists' Association from 1952–9, and from 1953–5 edited its journal. He has been a member of the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs since their inception. His main field is in nuclear and elementary particle physics, and he has written six books and about 150 papers. He has recently completed a book on world energy needs, with particular reference to nuclear power.
