Abstract

W. Edwards Deming used the power of statistical thinking and ideas from experimental design, process control, and sampling theory to revolutionize the manufacturing industry. This article describes how Deming’s ideas can by translated from manufacturing to the knowledge economy and information technologies predominate today. Examples related to computational advertising and recommender systems are discussed in the article.
