Abstract

Ever since the introduction of Union citizenship, worries have been expressed that it would affect national citizenship. This paper seeks to analyze, on the basis of case law of the European Court of Justice, the general directions in which developments at EU level are taking Union citizenship and the impact this has on the relationship Union versus national citizenship.
