Abstract

In this chapter, we will introduce the airborne network with directional antennas, including its protocol design and low-probability detection (LPD) issues. Cross-layer design optimizes the data transmission performance due to the use of parameters sharing across MAC, routing, and transport layer protocols. LPD aims to control the RF signal strength within an approximate level such that the adversaries cannot easily detect the sender's signals. LPD is important to military communications.
