Abstract

This chapter focuses on leadership in the arts sector and how leaders are responding to multiple crises in society and the environment. Inequality and climate change are highly challenging, but there is evidence that the arts sector is rising to the challenge. Initially during the pandemic, the arts looked for forms of ‘emergency leadership’ to get through the initial stages, but the arts sector is increasingly taking on a further challenge: that of developing and sustaining new forms of leadership. Networking and health and wellbeing are primary considerations. The chapter concludes by looking at the future of arts leadership.
