Abstract
Widespread deployment of renewable energy is accepted as a major contributor to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Many countries have established policies to accelerate the development of renewables. The UK Government gives renewable energy a key focus in its Energy White Paper. 1 1 The government White Paper can be found and tracked at: http://www.dti.gov.uk/energy/sepn/index.shtml. While accepted as visionary in its ambition, the White Paper has been criticised as too weak in its definition of the actual policy measures required. The Renewable Power Association has published the ‘RPA Renewables Routemap’ 2 2 The Renewables Routemap can be found at: http://www.r-p-a.org.uk. as its strategy for achieving a sustainable energy future.
