Abstract
We review work on quality of service modelling, which allows the effects of many traffic, network, and planning factors to be quantified. Recent developments include a new combined Monte Carlo and simulation method which has been used to model the overall grade-of-service performance of the British Telecom digital trunk network. We consider the prospect for quality of service modelling by examining new overall grade-of-service modelling possibilities, broader quality of service aspects, and the challenges offered by new services.
