Abstract
The continued development of the GEOSHARE database system for the storage of geotechnical and geological records is discussed. At the moment progress has been concentrated upon the use of an ICL 2980 mainframe installation, although in the longer term complementary systems for both mini- and micro-computers are envisaged. The object is to combine the advances in word processor and computer technology in order to provide a system that is simple to use, cost-effective and is of immediate relevance to both the professional civil engineer and the geologist. Examples of the use of the pilot system are given in relation to a geological study of part of the Thames Estuary.
