Abstract
Only 15 of the 71 patients investigated with intra and/or suprasellar tumors, both before and after hypophysectomy, were found to have lowered basal serum LH levels. Gonadal function, however, was impaired (amenorrhea, impotence, reduction of libido) in 80 %. Investigation was therefore carried out to see if the pattern of LH secretion over 4 hours would have a functional significance on the hypothalamic-hypophyseal-gonadal axis.
