Abstract

It is not often that we are afforded the opportunity view recent changing in the Armed Forces from grassroots level where as is always the case, the effects are most keenly felt. Lieutenant Colonel Nick Parker, as Officer Commanding 2nd Battalion the Royal Green Jackets, here pro‐vides us with just such an opportunity. Whilst he stress the ability of the Battalion to make the best of any given situation‐he does not some practical ‐shortcomings in policy such as the lack of carrier guidance/stability for young officers and the possibly damaging effects this can have. Ultimately, he emphasises the overriding importance of the ability of officers to inspire confidence and respect in their men, without wihch all other efforts may be in vain.
