Abstract

The first record of the invasive freshwater jellyfish (Craspedacusta sowerbii) in Lithuanian waters is described. This hydromedusa of East Asian origin dispersed worldwide during the 1900s, mainly through unintentional introductions by humans. Although the exact way of invasion of C. sowerbii into Lithuanian waters remains unclear, the dispersal of freshwater jellyfish in temperate waters and the reported population explosion event might have been facilitated by recent climate change.
