Abstract

The frequencies of the latrice vibrations of metallic sodium have been calculated by Toya's method at 1661 points within the irreducible sector of the first Brillouin zone. From these the vibrational frequency distribution has been obtained and this shows good agreement with the distribution obtained by Dixon et al. by fitting force constants to the results of neutron scattering experiments. The distribution has been used to obtain values of the specific heat.
