Abstract

Where the conflict in Europe between 1756 and 1763 is called the Seven Years’ War, in America it is known as the French and Indian War. Chronologically, it makes sense to distinguish it from the European conflict, since it began in North America in 1754. Its imperial dimension has led some historians to call it ‘the Great War for Empire’.
