Abstract

The VUB biomass gasification CRP plant is based on a fluidized bed gasifier plant operating with oxygen enriched air. The fuel gas powers a 500 kW gas turbine in an indirect moist air cycle. The cycle consists of an evaporator, a high temperature - high pressure heat exchanger, the fuel gas burner as well as an auxiliary burner for natural gas. The nominal capacity of the fluidized bed is 400 kg/h and the feedstock is wood waste from wood working factories around Brussels. The gasifier can also operate with other feedstocks such as cellulosic waste from the University Campus. The oxygen is supplied to the gasifier from a pressure swing adsorption air separation plant.
