Abstract
We analyze the fratricidal struggle between Pedro I and Enrique II of Castilla in the light of the Tale of the Kings inserted into El Victorial, by Gutierre Diaz de Games, and Pero Lopez de Ayala’s Chronicles. During the civil war, registered in greater conflict, the Hundred Years War, two kings fight for the crown. Since Pedro I clearly have a legitimate origin, the chroniclers, in favour of the usurper Enrique, must create for him a legitimacy based in the complaints for the profound damage caused to the kingdom by the notorious misconduct of the legitimate king. Once committed the double murder that means the murder of Pedro at the hands of Enrique, both fratricide and assassination, violence is exercised in its foundational role, establishing both a new reign and a new dynasty.
