Abstract

This Little booklet is a work of piety. The author has wished to do honour to the fa under of her school (Casterton School, formerly the Clergy Daughters' School at Cowan Bridge) and has collected a good deal of information about his family, his life and his charitable activities. She draws a pleasanter picture of him than the familiar one, setting against Charlotte Brontë's Mr. Brocklehurst the accaunt given by another old pupil-novelist, Emma Jane Worboise, who depicts him as the kind and thoughtful friend of the pupils.
