Abstract

This article proposes methodological tools for analyzing the relationships between elements of complex social categories. It implements an approach based on the methods of multivariate statistical analysis, including factorial, canonical, and regression types. The proposed methods were experimentally tested on the data of a sociological survey of 688 students of metropolitan universities of Chuvashia in order to identify hidden relationships between the elements of synthetic categories that characterize civic identity, professional competencies, and the social activity of students. Regression dependencies and canonical correlations between the elements of these categories have confirmed the scientific hypothesis of the study that the formation of professional competencies in students during their studies increases their social activity and contributes to their civic identity. At the same time, hidden relationships between the elements of these categories have been identified, many of which turned out to be statistically significant. This hypothesis has not been previously investigated using this toolkit. The proposed methodological tools significantly expand the possibilities of sociological research.
