Abstract

A possible immunological approach for treating phyto-estrogen (isoflavone and coumestan groups)-induced infertility in sheep and cattle was investigated in sheep. 2 injections of 2-10 mg of 2-carboxylic acid derivatives of formononetin daidzein and genistein coupled to bovine serum albumin were administered about 2 weeks apart. Appreciable antibody titers were observed in 25 of the 27 sheep. The antibodies raised in the sera demonstrated a high specificity for the particular phyto-estrogen whose derivative was coupled with albumin. Antibody titers were produced within about 3 weeks of treatment and in some animals were maintained for 1 year.
