Abstract

During the past three years the ecological conditions in a series of plots of different tree species have been examined at three main localities, namely, Abbotswood in the Forest of Dean, Bedgebury in Kent and West Tofts in Thetford Chase. The environmental factors in the plots are to a considerable extent determined by the type of tree species established, and in the present paper an account is given of the individual trees and the plantations as a whole. It has only been possible to make a summary of the results obtained but it is hoped that these will be published in greater detail elsewhere.
