Abstract

W ITHIN THE PAST quarter century foreign language education has come to share a significant role with departments of languages and literature in the preparation of foreign language teachers. Adding new and exciting dimensions to teacher preparation, foreign language education has contributed interesting innovations to the teaching scene. At the same time, however, it has given rise to a number of problems which are seen to deter the effectiveness of both the foreign language program and teacher education.
