Abstract
The force distribution method is a long-hand iterative method that can be used to determine the distribution of sway forces between building frames and diaphragms. It is analogous to the moment distribution method with the same basic relationships and procedure, which are discussed. The general applicability is demonstrated by the analysis of six examples with different frame stiffness, diaphragm stiffness, endwall restraints, and load conditions..
