Abstract
Material handling research can be categorized as: Category I Material handling equipment design. Category II Operational optimization of material handling equipment. Category III: Design of material handling systems. Category IV Design of manufacturing and distribution systems which consider material handling a critical component. The emphasis of material handling research has been on Categories II and III. To increase material handling research credibility and relevance, more emphasis is required on Categories I and IV.
