Abstract

Recovering lead electrolytically from granulated blast furnace bullion offers the potential for significant financial and environmental benefits. A fluoborate pilot plant (a modification of the Fluobor® process) successfully demonstrated that ferric-fluoborate leaching of bullion followed by electrowinning of the purified leach solution could produce commercial-grade lead. In order to recover other metals of value, especially precious metals, from the insoluble sludge, a new hydrometallurgical process was simultaneously studied and the proposed process was integrated into the overall flow sheet.
