Abstract

This chapter discusses about FLOW-MATIC and MATH-MATIC automatic programming systems. An AUTOMATIC programming system is an ordinary computer program. Its input is a definition of the program the user wants, and the output is the coded program concerned, and generally, a good write-up of this program. In FLOW-MATIC, which is a business data processing compiler, the pseudo-code language is a form of English with restrictions on the form of sentences, and verbs. It can be seen that conditions are restrictions, not warpings of the language, and, accordingly, anyone using the full language will have little or no difficulty in understanding the FLOW-MATIC pseudocode even without any previous knowledge of it.
