Abstract

The variation in the spectral position of the fluorescent 2E- 4A 2 transition lines at high pressure and low temperature is studied. Two sharp lines from the Cr ions in the mirror sites named as R 1, R 2 and two others from those in the inverse sites named as S 1, S 2 have different red shift rate with pressure. When the temperature is decreased from 300K to 77K, all R lines and S lines shift to the blue more than 10cm -1. A rough estimate indicates that it has to take account of lattice relaxation and crystal field modification, in order to completely explain the shifts in both two cases.
